Espresso Tonic
Espresso coffee and Tonic water might sound like a weird combination, but these two ingredients actually mesh well together!
Baristas started to play with this flavour combination around 2010 in international barista competitions, where one of the competition tasks is to create a signature cocktail or beverage.
Tonic water is sweetened and carbonated soft drink flavoured with citrus and quinine, an aroma extracted from the bark of the cinchona tree.
Espresso on the other hand is strong, spicy and creamy, and mixed together they make a cola-like flavour that is not too sweet though.
There are a lot of different Tonic waters nowadays to choose from so go ahead and try various alternatives in the search for your perfect Espresso Tonic!
You'll need:
- 40 ml Espresso (double shot)
- Tonic water
- Ice
- A slice of lemon
Put ice and Tonic water in a glass. Brew a double shot of espresso directly over the tonic water or into a cup, and then pour the espresso slowly into the drink. Garnish with a slice of lemon and enjoy!
