The Motta Leveling Tool will make the work of every barista more efficient. The disc distributes the grinds in the portafilter evenly before tamping. This results in proper extraction, prevents channelling and makes your espresso shots more repeatable.

How it works

After pouring ground coffee into the portafilter basket, put the levelling tool on it. Twist the levelling tool 2-4 times without pushing it down. The profiled base distributes the grounds. After that, tamp the coffee with a regular tamper.

How it's built

Solid, made of high-quality stainless steel and plastic. The knob decorated with Motta logo and a cat picture.

Motta Leveling Tool, 58 mm

This tool works great. I actually don't have to tamp anymore.

Nice tool but not essential.

It's nice to swirl around with this, but whether the result is significantly better, I don't know. Even if the coffee grounds are placed unevenly in the filter, that famous channeling still happens despite leveling. The tool itself is solid and well made. Using this has become more of a ritual for me now.

A must-have purchase

Maybe some people don't consider using such a tool and just level with their finger, or not at all. In any case, why not provide an even platform for tamping if it's conveniently possible? This leveling tool does an excellent job. The height of the leveler is adjustable; however, you do need some strength and a good grip to rotate the adjustment.
