Customer reviews
Fellow Opus Conical Burr Grinder, Black
The grinder is what I expected and does the job.
G.M.Perfectly suitable for the family's home needs
I asked a barista for recommendations for a slightly better coffee grinder that provides a consistent grinding result, and this was the cheaper of the two recommendations. Based on the product description and price, I chose this one and I'm super satisfied. Great value for home use. We use it for French press, manual filtering, and moka pot. There are no grind residues, and the grinding quality is wonderfully consistent compared to our cheap grinder. Highly recommended.
A.P.Quite good for the money.
Is it the world's finest coffee grinder? No, but it has all the features and smart solutions of a grinder that costs double or triple.
It lacks stepless adjustments and it's a bit tricky to set how fine it should be, as you have to remove the coffee holder to adjust the coarser setting. But it's quite a good price for an espresso grinder for home use.
The magnetic coffee catcher is a super smart design and there's some plastic insert that fits 58mm portafilters, no dosing ring needed.
Super satisfied!
Good value for the price
Some very small grains/powder come through even at coarser grind settings.
E.A.Great grinder
An excellent grinder for its price, and in general. It produces consistent results. Espresso grind quality still untested.
T.P.Very good choice for consistent grinding
Using the grinder now for 2 weeks, I can say that it was a very good choice. Very good design makes you want to put the equipment at the focal point of the kitchen counter. Grinding precision gives you great opportunity for experimenting. The only downside is that the residue in the grinder is relatively big, 0.5-1 grams, you need to kick the grinder a couple of times with your hand to collect the remains
F.I.Almost great for the money
This is an espresso grinder, no doubt about it.
At setting 4, it already grinds for espresso, and there are about 10 steps left to reach the finest setting. For the price, you can't expect a stepless adjustment or to set the measurements in grams for grinding, but it does a very good job if you weigh the beans first. It leaves 0.2-1.0 grams in the machine after grinding, but after turning the grinder on and off 2-3 times and tapping on the side, typically only about 0.0-0.3 grams remain. As an extra nice feature, the cup can be separated into two, and the inner part can be held against the portafilter to pour over the coffee powder without spilling a drop, very convenient. It's a bit of a shame that there isn't an on/off button, but it goes into standby mode after a period of inactivity.
All espresso grinders are really expensive, but this one is really great for the money (i.e., it grinds fine enough for espresso and even a little finer).
Good, not great
For the reference - I am comparing this grinder to my old Ascaso Mini.
Pros:
+ Well thought through design. Starting from packaging and to the little details like grind setting hints under the hopper lid. Very nice.
+ Decently quiet and the pitch of the sound is not annoying
+ Easy to adjust grind size, especially if you don't do espresso and do not intend to obsess over in-between-step microadjustments.
+ It grinds well. Whole family noticed that the coffee tastes much smoother now comparing to the previous grinder. I guess the grind uniformity is better
Cons:
- build quality is far from premium. It is too light and e.g. when adjusting the grind size you kind of have to hold the base of the grinder with one hand and move the slider with another - because the slider action is far from smooth and you will just move the grinder on the table if you don't hold it.
- since this is not a zero retention grinder - there is almost always some leftover ground coffee on the base of the grinder and you will scratch it unless you take care wiping it before and after every use
All in all I would recommend this for anyone who is not ready to splash twice more for a better built grinder. It is functional, well thought through and grinds well.
