Trung Nguyen Phin Coffee Filter 100 ml
- Vietnamese stainless steel coffee filter
The Trung Nguyen phin filter consists of a round perforated plate, that fits over a coffee mug or cup; a brewing chamber, that sits on top of the plate; a perforated insert that fits inside the chamber, to tamp the grounds down; and a cap to keep the heat in.
How to use the phin filter:
- Put 2-3 tablespoons of ground coffee into the filter and gently push the filter press inside.
- Place the filter on the cup and pour a small amount of hot water in (96-100°C) to moisten the coffee.
- Wait about 20 seconds.
- Fill the filter chamber with hot water and cover with the lid.
- Over the next 5 minutes the water should drizzle through the strainer.
- Remove the lid from the cup.
According to your personal preference, add condensed milk or sugar. Vietnamese coffee can be served hot or add ice if you want to serve as iced coffee.

I had high expectations for this Vietnamese coffee experience, but unfortunately, I was disappointed. The coffee didn't taste very good – it was dry and had a strange cocoa-like aftertaste that didn't match what I was hoping for. Additionally, the included phin filter wasn't very functional either. It was difficult to achieve a proper brew, and the result was either too thin or too slow. All in all, a disappointing experience.

It gives a different experience of coffee brewing. It takes 5-6 minutes to have 1 concentrated cup of coffee. Perfect to make ice coffee or milk coffee in the summer as otherwise it will produce strong coffee.

It's an okay device. When using it, ensure that the coffee has the right coarseness. The coffee should be placed loosely in the filter and not pressed. If you press too hard, it prevents the liquid from passing through. If you want, you can mix Trung Nguyen coffee with other coffees, but remember that their coarseness should be the same.

I ordered two as I returned from Vietnam without them as hanoi airport was a rip off. I had gotten one in the markets which was very poorly made. These are well made and actually work. Will order from this site again

I personally use this to make my coffee similar to an americano, by pouring water over the concentrated brew. It's quite difficult to get a bad extraction with this (at least with the right grind size), and you'll get a nice texture from a richer coffee.

This coffee filter seems to be a very high-quality product. I'm still learning how to use it, but I managed to make a (strong) afternoon coffee. After use, wait a moment and you can easily tap the coffee puck from the filter into the compost bin. Easy to clean.

We have tried the conventional coffee making here in europe as well as the machine one. We actually have a De longhi automatic machine. My wife has a vietnames friend and intoduced her with this type of coffee. So far, the coffee experience is nice and good!

My main complaint is with the upper screen. It's quite significantly too small for the chamber and so you'll always get a bunch of grounds coming up from underneath even with hard tamping and careful pouring.

On the trip to Vietnam, I saw a lot of these. In the end, I didn't buy one and regretted it. To my delight, Crema offers these Trung Nguyen ones, which are the best made. The locals had mixed aluminum ones in cafes, compared to which this is a luxury product. After a few weeks of use, I can say the device works excellently. I just ordered a second one, as others also started wanting coffee made in the same style.
