Customer reviews
Plastic but still of good quality and functional
Even though it is entirely plastic, it is still a good quality and functional coffee scale with a timer
N.J.Excellent scale
I wanted to buy a proper scale and this choice was perfect. It was amusing to read the instructions for determining measurement accuracy based on where you are in the world, because gravity is not the same everywhere. I have been using it for a few weeks now and can't think of anything critical to say. If you want an excellent scale, I recommend this one. My previous scale was a traditional kitchen scale that measured with gram accuracy.
J.S.Good scale
A basic scale for dosing coffee and water. Well-priced and visually pleasing.
LauriGood device with minor flaws
Works well.
A couple of criticisms:
- reacts a bit slowly to changes, so you need to add the item to be weighed slowly to avoid overshooting the target value.
- the feel of the "buttons" is non-existent (i.e., touch buttons)
- the display information is difficult to see if the device is not directly facing you. For example, segments that shouldn't be active begin to appear on the display.
You learn to manage these minor flaws once you become familiar with the device.
Good scale
Easy to use and handy timer function.
A.T.Stylish and functional
Easy to use and works as you would want. Stylish and beautiful
T.N.Precise, solid and easy to use
Great scale, very easy to use.
It will definitely make you coffee preparation easier!
Hario V60 Drip Scale
The buttons require some getting used to at first, but after understanding the logic, using the scale has been pleasant. It responds quickly and is excellent for pour-over preparation.
J.S.Great product
Easy to use, accurate measurement.
S.L.Hario V60 Drip Scale
Easy to use and works well!
A.M.A good and simple scale that gets the job done.
A good and simple scale that gets the job done. No fancy extra features like Bluetooth and apps that the Acacia scales have, but I don't think they're necessary. My first scale lasted 6-7 years until I accidentally submerged it in water, and it didn't like that.
What might be somewhat annoying is that it sometimes has a delay of about a second before it responds to a button press.
Convenient and accurate scale
Good with both scale and timer function in one. Convenient together with the drip station.
MatsQuestionable Quality
Once you open the packaging and take out the scale, you immediately feel that the quality is very plasticky and cheap. I was surprised considering that Hario usually has a good handle on their materials, etc. Without trying to sound too cynical, it feels like a knock-off product where someone has trimmed the Hario brand and made a cheaper version. But this one is actually sold by Hario. However, it is not manufactured in Japan, like many of their other products are (their pour-over carafe, for example, is of very fine quality).
The scale technically meets its specifications but in a very unsatisfactory way. One example: it does not start registering weight until you've reached at least 2g, even though it is supposed to have a precision of 0.1g. This means that you can't, for example, place a light cup on the scale, press Tare, and then try to weigh something under 2g. If you want to weigh something that weighs, say, 1.3g, you have to first add enough weight for the scale to start registering weight (i.e., something over 2g) and then add what you actually want to weigh. I'm not an engineer, but it seems like it should be possible to make a scale that can start weighing things under 2g directly. Another example: the scale "chases" a lot. If I have weighed 15g of coffee beans and I walk away for a few seconds to do something else, the weight can suddenly show 15.1g or 14.9g. If you stand and watch the scale, you see how it struggles to decide and how it jumps between different weights, even though nothing has really changed on top of it.
One last thing that might be specific to my unit: when I pressed the On/Off/Tare button the second time I used the scale, the display flickered and showed a lot of nonsense, then the scale shut off and refused to restart. I had to open the battery compartment and remove/insert the batteries again for it to start. This does not seem very promising for the product's lifespan.
Here is a list of pros and cons:
+ It does what it's supposed to do, technically speaking.
+ It's lightweight.
+ It's small.
+ It's quiet, meaning it doesn't beep when you start it or press any button, which can be extremely annoying with some other scales.
- It reeks of cheap quality.
- It's small, which can be problematic if you have containers with a large base.
- The buttons are very unresponsive and nothing happens about every other time you press them.
- It "chases" after the weight.
- It cannot weigh anything under 2g without cumbersome workarounds.
- It is relatively expensive considering how cheap it feels.
- It is very unsatisfactory to use, user experience-wise.
- There is a certain delay in weight registration, making it quite easy to overshoot when, for example, pouring a pour over.
- My unit seems to have issues with loose connections.
If you're thinking about buying this, don't expect any remarkable quality. If you're okay with paying a hefty amount for a scale that does roughly what it's supposed to do and is a bit tricky to use, then this might do. I've already had to return another scale from a different brand that didn't even meet its own technical specifications, so this one stays with me, if only because I can't be bothered with the process of navigating the mire of scales until I find one where the manufacturer understands quality somewhat.
Uncomplicated and good
Simple and functional design. Cheap materials but they do what they're supposed to without any problems. Typical Hario no fuss attitude. It's also stylish.
Alex BuneaHario V60 Drip Scale
Love it! It helps me keep track on the pouring. My coffee has never been this good, totally worth it.
Ok
The buttons are responsive, but not perfect.
Good scale without gimmicks.
Good and precise scale without unnecessary adjustments.
JHHario V60 drip scale
High-quality scale and conveniently sized; works as it should with minimal battery consumption. The decimal point on the weight reading could be larger for clarity. Otherwise, I highly recommend.
JarskiWorth the expectations
Measurement only starts once the weight exceeds 2 grams. Otherwise, it meets expectations.
DarviScale
Perfect size and easy to use
HollieGood scale
Does what it should and does it well. You might find cheaper scales, but for me, this one had the best balance between design/price/performance.
TFgood, but not for espresso
Designed great and functioning quite well. It takes the scales a few seconds (about 3 - 5) to show (update) the weight after it changed, so it will not be possible to use the scales for making espresso. They start showing the weight starting from 2 grams. My scales came with a slight painting defect.
DKVery good product
It's very good product. I'm very glad that I bouht it.
Marcin PaprotaGood product
Improves coffee quality as it allows you to track time more accurately when making pour overs, and you can also effectively monitor how quickly you pour water. I recommend it.
