Cold Brew - Silky Smooth Coffee with the Hario Filter-in-Bottle
Cold Brew is an absolute summer favorite: coffee slowly brewed in cold water, naturally low in acidity, sweet, and exceptionally smooth. The Hario Filter-in-Bottle is one of the most stylish and easiest ways to make this delicious treat at home.
In this guide, you'll learn how to make perfect cold brew coffee in just a few simple steps.
What do you need?
- Hario Filter-in-Bottle
- Coffee: 50–60 g (for example, a medium roast works wonderfully)
- Water: 750 ml (room temperature or cold filtered water)
- Grinder: Coarse grind (similar to a French press grind)
How to make Cold Brew:
- Grind the coffee: Use a coarse grind. If the grind is too fine, the coffee will become cloudy and too bitter, while a coarse grind allows clean aromas to shine.
- Add coffee and water: Pour the ground coffee into the bottle's filter. Slowly pour the water through the filter so that all the grounds are evenly saturated.
- Close and wait: Close the bottle carefully. You can gently shake the bottle so the coffee mixes with the water. Place the bottle in the refrigerator to steep.
- Let time do the work: Let the coffee brew in the refrigerator for 8–12 hours. The longer you let it steep, the fuller-bodied the flavor will be.
- Remove the filter: When the brewing time is up, remove the filter from the bottle. Your Cold Brew is now ready to enjoy – it will keep well in the refrigerator for up to a few days.
###3 tips for the perfect result
- Choose the right coffee: Cold Brew highlights the coffee’s natural flavors. Try berry-like and fruity light roasts if you enjoy freshness, or nutty and chocolatey coffees if you want a more traditional, fuller flavor.
- Serving: Cold Brew is at its best over ice. You can enjoy it as is, or add a splash of milk, oat milk, or even a dash of Monin flavored syrup (for example vanilla or caramel) to the glass.
- Cleanliness: The Hario Filter-in-Bottle is dishwasher safe, but we recommend rinsing the filter thoroughly after each use so that old oils won’t affect the flavor of the next batch.
