Caffe Mocha or Mocaccino - a chocolate flavoured version of a cappuccino or a latte.
A caffe mocha is a type of coffee drink that typically contains espresso, chocolate syrup, steamed milk, and whipped cream.
Caffè Mocha, or more familiarly just "mocha" is chocolaty coffee served in a tall glass with espresso, chocolate flavour from either cocoa powder, chocolate sauce or chocolate syrup, and topped with whipped cream, chocolate sauce and other garnishes.
The popularity of mocha coffee lies in the fact that it can be enjoyed both cold and warm, and can be customized to your taste into a spectacular and delicious dessert drink such as shakes or ice cream servings. Around the world you often see the most imaginative cold Mocha drinks in take away mugs or warm Caffe Mochas with the most expressive latte art including chocolate sauce.
Caffè Mocha
When consumed hot, a Caffe Mocha is assembled in a glass as follows:
- Pour chocolate sauce or chocolate syrup on the bottom and sides of the glass. Alternatively, mix a spoonful of cocoa powder with a small amount of hot water so that the mixture dissolves.
- Prepare espresso (with an espresso machine or even strong coffee in a moka pot) and pour the desired amount into the glass and mix with the chocolate.
- Froth the type of milk yo prefer and add to the glass.
- Top the drink with whipped cream, and decorate with chocolate sauce, nonparelles, grated chocolate, cookie crumbs or any other delicacy you want.
- Enjoy your delicious drink with a long spoon.
Mocaccino
If you are not a big fan of whipped cream and decorations, you can still enjoy a chocolate flavoured coffee drink served in a cappuccino or latte cup. In that case the drink is put together like a cappuccino, hence called a "Mocacchino".
- Make an espresso into a cup
- Add a spoonful of cocoa powder or chocolate sauce to the espresso and mix until smooth.
- Froth the milk into a fine, smooth milk foam and pour into the chocolate-espresso mixture, carefully forming latte art patterns with the milk.
- Serve and enjoy!
Iced Mocha
Mocha coffees are also commonly served as iced coffees in a tall glass mixed with ice cubes or crushed ice and decorated with whipped cream, chocolate sauce and lots of sweet garnishes.
- Make an espresso and pour into a tall glass.
- Add a splash of chocolate sauce or cocoa powder to the espresso.
- Add ice or crushed ice to the glass.
- Pour in cold milk to your liking and decorate with whipped cream, chocolate sauce, candies, nonparelles or cookie crumbs for example. Let your imagination run free!
